    11/13/2004 - AT&T under fire for rushing pension changes

    Information included:
    • Downloadable Briefs: On October On October 7, 2004, the downloadable briefs were filed with the U.S. District Court in New Jersey. An oral argument may be scheduled in Newark at a later date. When it is scheduled, we will post notice so class members can attend.
    • Impact of the Partial Settlement of the IBM Class Action: While it will be some months before this happens, read more about the impact on the AT&T class action.
    • Class Definition for the AT&T Class Action: The AT&T class action lawsuit centers on the conversion of the AT&T pension plan, which significantly reduced the value of benefits for long term older workers. The lawsuit plaintiffs argue that the pension plan conversion is inconsistent with ERISA and age discrimination laws.
  • Summary Plan Description Survey (SPD) This survey is intended to estimate how many employees actually received the "Summary Plan Description"(SPD) about the cash balance plan from AT&T in early 1998. The SPD contains a legal description of plan rules that AT&T is required to distribute. The results of the survey may be used as part of the class action lawsuit about the cash balance conversion, of which you are likely a participant.
